INTRODUCTION
The Department of Health Sociology is one of fourteen departments in the Graduate School of Health Sciences and Nursing.
The department consists of one Associate Professor, 24 graduate students and 2 research students including two international students from China.
Following the reorganization of the University of Tokyo in April 1997, the old Department of Health Sociology (HOKEN-SHAKAIGAKU) was divided into two present departments: Health Sociology (KENKO-SHAKAIGAKU) and Social Gerontology. These two departments cooperate in teaching undergraduate courses and share space, equipment, and budget.
Our department studies social and psychological factors related to health problems and health care systems, through developing and applying theories, concepts and methods, which have been developed in sociology and social psychology.
